GENERAL INFORMATION

LOCATION

Southeast Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tenggara) is in the lower right leg of the orchidshaped island. This province covering the island of Buton, Muna and Many other small islands around the main land. It is located between 121 and 124 grade east longitude and 2-9 latitude to south of equator.

TIME

Time standard belong to Central Indonesia Time; 8 hours ahead of GMT, or the same time of Bali.

CLIMATE

There are two seasons all over Indonesia as well as on Sulawesi island. Temperature range from 21 C to 35 C. Average temperature through the year is 27. Dry season is from May to October and rainy season is from November to April. Heavy rain in January and February.

CURRENCY

There is no authorized money changer both in Kendari and Bau-Bau, so better change your money in Ujung Pandang before departure to Kendari. Bank Indonesia and BNI in Kendari and Bau Bau can change foreign currency but poor rate.

HOW TO GET THERE AND SCHEDULE

By Air : Daily flight from Jakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar via Ujung Pandang and then connecting flight by Merpati from Ujung Pandang to Kendari.

Bau-Bau on Buton island serve by Merpati twice a week from Ujung Pandang.

By Sea : There are regular schedule of National shipping Lines (PELNI) to Bau-Bau and Kendari from Ujung Pandang or from Bitung and Ambon, the schedule is twice bi-weekly.

By Overland : From Ujung Pandang to BajoE (Bone) in South Sulawesi, then take Ferry boat to Kolaka, West coast of Sulawesi crossing Bone Gulf in 8 hours. Daily Departure in the evening and arrive the next day in the morning.
